Summer at St. Michael's Day Camp

Our summer program is based on a holistic approach to education using several approaches and forms of media. Children are encouraged to express themselves through exploration of the visual arts, creative movement, sports and crafts. The program celebrates diversity in our community and our world. We encourage respect, awareness, and the appreciation of others.

Morning Adventurers: Our program separates campers by age: 3's, 4's and 5's. The camp meets Monday through Friday 9:00 - 1:00. The fee for our Morning Adventurers program is $210.00. (Our 2nd session is a four day week and the fee is $168.00.)

Morning Adventurers camp is a stimulating half-day program that introduces our youngsters to key social values such as respect, awareness and the appreciation of others. We introduce even our youngest groups to specialized daily activities, which include: swimming, crafts, dance, supervised play, and story time. The program is designed, and run, by professional early childhood educators and their assistants. Each weekly session is developed around a theme which helps provides focus and direction for each meeting. To kick-off summer 2011 Morning Adventurers camp, we will begin our study of FAMOUS ARTISTS and their techniques. We will create masterpieces of our very own while experimenting with techniques used by those such as Monet, Michelangelo and Picasso. After a week at the "SMS art museum," and following the long holiday weekend, we'll hop through a calendar year enjoying all that there is to enjoy about THE FOUR SEASONS. Four days, "four seasons" - with all the fun in store, you may just feel like you are at a resort! During session three, we focus on ourselves, specifically our well being, in IT'S GOOD FOR ME. This week gives us an opportunity to reinforce topics such as: good hygiene, safety, nutrition, exercise, manners and the like. Now that we've got that down, week four takes us on an exploration of CASTLES. Kings and Queens, Prince and Princesses alike, will find that the majestic SMS early childhood center will be the talk of the town when we culminate with our own ball. This "royal event" is certain to be the talk of the town! We then "mulch" our way INTO THE GARDEN to discover the roots of our favorite vegetables and flowers during session five. We will sprinkle our week with song and dance, and sun-filled laughter will permeate throughout campus. We will also learn about being "green" when we plant our seeds in recycled newspaper containers. From the earth to the moon, we'll find ourselves blasting off to OUTER SPACE during session six. We will learn about planets, stars, the meteors and more as we explore "infinity and beyond...!" Finally, our last camp will be A GREAT BIG SPLASH as we hit the pool and playgrounds with water toys galore!

*PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: All children must be completely potty-trained prior to camp. We cannot have any exceptions to this rule as it compromises our counselor to camper ratios. Thank you.

Junior Adventurers: Our program is geared for children entering 1st through 4th grade. Camp meets Monday through Friday with full and half day options. Our half day program runs 9:00 to 1:00 and the fee is $210.00. Our full day runs 9:00 to 3:00 daily and the fee is $285.00. (Our 2nd session is a 4 day week. Fees run $168.00 for the half day and $228.00 for the full day.)

Junior Adventurers camp has a structured day that includes a rich variety of activities guided by an experienced activity head. Each morning campers are introduced to a series of stimulating, theme-oriented programs complimented by physical outlets such as swimming and recreational sports. The optional afternoon program offers a variety of activities; however, most popular is our daily afternoon open swim. Weekly themes provide focus and direction to each session. Week one begins when St. Michael's campers take to the runway in CALLING ALL FASHION DESIGNERS. Campers will have ample time to create original designs and explore how hair, make-up and manicures can really make a fashion statement. The finale includes a runway fashion show allowing campers the opportunity to strut their stuff! During week two, AT THE ATLANTIC, campers hike down to the beach to comb the shoreline, collecting mermaid purses, seashells and sea glass to compliment their beach treasure creations. Do you have a summer fashion statement in mind, or furniture piece to makeover? Here is your chance. You may bring in something to "up-date" or enjoy creating some of our creative craft ideas. You will be sure to take a piece of Rhode Island home with you this week! Our third week will blow you away with challenging hands-on experiments in SCIENCE SCHEMATICS. Daily experiments are sure to send you spinning out the science lab doors when things are shooting out of their containers. This session is definitely an indoor and outdoor mix of fun! Week four, we roll out the red carpet, creating original performances in SMS's GOT TALENT! This talent show, now in its third year running, is surely not-to-be-missed! Week five, we browse computer science in our Apple lab, creating new art forms during COMPUTER GRAPHICS. During our sixth session, IT'S MY PARTY, we celebrate celebrations! What is that party idea that you've always wanted to do, but for whatever reason haven't yet? Come ready to party hearty during party week! Again, we conclude our fun-filled summer getting WET-N-WILD as we submerge ourselves in water games and drench our back-to-school blues.
